Crocodile Express · Daintree Village

An hour on the Daintree River

A one-hour cruise with a naturalist guide, from either Daintree Village or the ferry gateway, with a pass that stays valid for 14 days so you can ride the other route too. Pick it if you have a car and want the river without a full-day tour.

Crocodile Express Daintree River Cruise

About this experience

Crocodile Express runs two separate routes on the Daintree River, and this ticket covers both. The Upper Daintree cruise leaves from the jetty in Daintree Village and heads upriver, where the listing points to birds and crocodiles. The Lower Daintree cruise leaves from the ferry gateway, just before the cable ferry, and works through the mangroves. Each takes about an hour with a naturalist guide. The pass is valid for 14 days from the first use, which suits anyone staying a few days in Port Douglas or the Daintree.

Both departure points are south of the river. You do not need the ferry, and Daintree Village is a short detour off the road to Cape Tribulation. Check in first at the Crocodile Express shop, 5 Stewart Street, Daintree. The two jetties are about 13 km apart by road, and there are no transfers, so you need your own car.

Crocodiles are wild, and no sighting is guaranteed. They are easier to see in the cooler months, roughly June to September, when they bask on the banks. In summer they spend more time in the water. Queensland's crocodile safety advice applies on shore too: keep well back from the water's edge at both jetties.

  • Two routes on one pass: Upper Daintree and the mangroves
  • Pass valid for 14 days from first use
  • Naturalist guide on each one-hour cruise
  • Both jetties are south of the river, no ferry needed
  • Easy to add to a self-drive day to Cape Tribulation

Tips before you book

  • Do the village route first. The upriver section is where the listing points to birds.
  • Go in the cooler months if crocodiles are the goal. They bask on the banks more from June to September.
  • Bring binoculars and a zoom lens for birds and distant crocs.
  • Combine it with the Cassowary Falls tour on Upper Daintree Road, also south of the river.
